Hey Campers! Happy Friday! Today we celebrate our 20TH Weekend Warrior feature! Wow! We have met so many people, through Instagram, with incredible stories, overcoming some insane obstacles, and still getting outside to live life. It’s just been an incredible journey. Let’s meet #20- Meag & Ben, from @wilddrivelife! Hikers living out of a bus, they have been travelling all over the US with their dog, Moose. Be sure to check out their Instagram, and follow along with the big blue (turquoise?) bus, but FIRST-
1. Where did your love of the great outdoors come from, and what does it do for you?
My love for the outdoors bloomed on my first hike with my now husband Ben in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Ben grew up loving and exploring those woods, but for me, the passion came later in life. That first hike was a serious challenge for me. I was born with bronchiectasis, a congenital lung disease that limits my lung function. Reaching the summit that day with Ben opened a new door to the opportunity and reward present in conquering physical challenges. Five years later, we’ve hiked countless miles, summited all 48 New Hampshire 4,000 footers (with our dog Moose!) and so much more. The beauty and freedom of the outdoors gifted me with a space to grow, excel, and overcome my condition.
2. What does weekend warrior mean to you?
Ben and I’s shared passion for quality time in the wild fuels our work ethic and creativity, it always has. We’ve paid off all of our debt and built a mobile lifestyle in order to create more space and time for travel and outdoor pursuits. Being a weekend warrior means prioritizing those simple experiences, knowing their worth. When nature beckons you, you’ll find a way to work hard and get back out there, as often as possible.
3. Where is your next adventure?
Our new lifestyle affords us more flexibility than we’ve ever had before so we’re planning some longer distance wild fun this year. We’re running our first marathon in Lone Pine, CA (our favorite spot we’ve traveled so far!) in May. This summer we’re aiming for the Cohos Trail which stretches from Crawford Notch in New Hampshire to the Canadian border. We would also love to revisit the #nh48 via a White Mountains Direttissima. Overall, more miles in the wild is the goal!
Thank you guys, so much, for being a part of our Weekend Warrior series! We can’t wait to see where the road takes you next, and we will definitely be following along on your journey! If you want to check out their bus, watch the video here, and then head over to The Wild Drive to learn more about their journey.
Happy adventuring, Campers! Go crush those weekend goals!
