Hey Campers! Happy Friday! Today we celebrate our 20TH Weekend Warrior feature! Wow! We have met so many people, through Instagram, with incredible stories, overcoming some insane obstacles, and still getting outside to live life. It’s just been an incredible journey. Let’s meet #20- Meag & Ben, from @wilddrivelife! Hikers living out of a bus, they have been travelling all over the US with their dog, Moose. Be sure to check out their Instagram, and follow along with the big blue (turquoise?) bus, but FIRST-
Happy Friday, Campers! It’s time, yet again, for another #WeekendWarrior introduction! Meet Brandi, aka @soulshinephotographer, who is an adventuring mom of 2, and an amazing photographer! I can’t wait to share her story with you, because her urge to keep her kids outdoors as much as possible resonates so much with me! So, let’s get to it! I present to you:
Weekend Warrior Series: Brandi
1. Where did your love of the great outdoors come from, and what does it do for you?
My love for the great outdoors started when I was pretty young.
Me and my siblings would always be outside exploring the woods or pond in our backyard. We never wanted to be inside and usually went out first thing in the morning and came in only when it got to dark to see.
We would build forts, fish, catch frogs, climb trees and even pretended we lived in the woods.
I remember my dad waking us up early in the morning (3am) to go fishing and although we weren’t happy about waking early, those are my fondest memories.
As I got older I continued my love for the outdoors by riding dirt bikes, running through the woods, working on a farm with friends and horseback riding. Anytime I could be outside, I was.
Being outside in my eyes is a must. Especially now that I’m a mom.
When indoors, my kids are so different. They tend to fight more and need my attention 24/7.
When we are outside, they are 100% independent and work together as a team instead of fighting.
Watching my kids exploring and learning about the natural world, seeing there imagination run wild and witnessing there love for nature and drive to get outside makes me so happy. Something I will continue to water and watch grow inside each of them.
2. What does weekend warrior mean to you?
Being a stay at home mom allows me to not only be a weekend warrior but also a weekday warrior. My son is 3.5 and my daughter is 2, so they are not yet in school.
In just one year we explored 19 state parks.
We make sure to recap our day at bedtime after every adventure. I love hearing what my son has to say about our adventures!
3. Where is your next adventure?
Our next adventure is to Jamaica February 21st, without the kids. A mama, papa adventure.
As for an adventure with the kiddos, everyday is an adventure. Whether we go to our local nature center, visit a state park or explore in the backyard, we try to get outside as much as possible, which in the warmer months is everyday.
We have lots in store for the summer and I’m looking forward to all of our upcoming family adventures.
Thank you so much for sharing, Brandi! We have a lot in common, or things I WISH we had in common- you know- like travelling around with kids, exploring the country one park at a time? We love following all your adventures, and can’t wait to see what sort of amazing adventures you embark on in Jamaica! Campers, don’t forget to head over to Insta to follow her page for more amazing #adventurefam photos!
Happy Friday, Campers! Did this week just fly by for anyone else? I feel like I blinked and it was Friday! (Love weeks like that- so busy you can’t think straight and then BOOM- it’s Friday.) So, in our usual tradition of celebrating the weekend, we’re featuring another one of our awesome #WeekendWarriors! Meet Jennifer. She is the owner of a super dope company (that you will probably want to bookmark for later) CampRents. It’s a gear rental company for the great adventurer (albeit a budget friendly one)! So let’s get to hear more about Jennifer, and her Weekend Warrior ways…

Meet Chelsea, aka @thehikingmermaid. An adventurer, a traveler, an amazing photographer, and with that kind of handle, how can you not be intrigued? We were! And once we started following, we were not disappointed. She’s got an amazing portfolio, and an amazing job! We tracked her down to find out where this love for the outdoors came from, and where it’s headed. So, ladies and gents, let’s get to know more about The Hiking Mermaid.

3. Where is your next adventure?
Somewhere inside the Rocky Mountain National park! Since I live so close, and do we really ever know for how long we will be in one place for? I made a promise to myself to build a relationship with this park since I do currently live so close! To see it in every season and to watch it grow as time moves on! Looking back through the images I capture really show how the earth is changing with time! <3 I do explore many other places in between but my adventure base would be the RMNP!
Thank you so much, Chelsea, for sharing! As a photographer, I get that our weekend warriors may be more like a weekday warrior, but we get those adventures in, when we can, and as often as possible! Am I right?
Alright Campers, enough reading behind the screen. Now turn it off, and go get lost!

What does weekend warrior mean to you?
For me, weekend warrior describes someone who works to live, not lives to work. A weekend warrior works hard at their regular job but come Friday afternoon, they leave their work at the office and head outdoors. Weekend warriors don’t look at weekends as time to sleep in and spend the weekend in their PJ’s. We head for the hills, mountains, lakes, rivers or wherever, to spend some quality time in nature. Our weekends are about adventure and pursuing our passions in the outdoors.
What does being outdoors DO to you?
The outdoors helps me to relax and unwind. It’s a completely different world and forces me to slow down. It allows me to live in the moment, without noise and distraction. The fresh air helps to clear my head and puts things into perspective. There’s something about stepping into the woods, taking a deep breath and just feeling all your stress and problems melt away. Being outdoors makes me happy and content.
Where is your next adventure?
Well I just got back from a pretty epic 3-week trip to Peru, so things will be low key for awhile. Aside from local weekend camping/hiking trips, I’m heading to western Canada to spend Christmas with my family in the Rocky Mountains. I just bought a splitboard (specialized snowboard for ski touring) so I’m looking forward to trying it out in the backcountry!
Jill, thank you so much for sharing your story with us! We are thoroughly enjoying your pics from Peru!!! Ok, campers, head over to her instagram, and give her a follow- you won’t regret it! And if you want to be featured as a Weekend Warrior, head over to our contact page and let us know! We LOVE sharing your stories!
